Near miss

Post by bobsnicholson »

The nearest near miss this am on the bike.
A49 i saw a car come to the T junction on my left about 150 mts ahead, i'm on the main road, i slow down watching her, she's not seen me i say to myself, slow to about 20 or less, sure enough she comes out sharpish, i hit the brakes and went behind her in front of the car that was behind her. So so close. She was totally oblivious to me being there, i was invisable.
They are out there folks. Be alert. I feel sure a lesser experianced rider would have hit her and who know's what the out could have been.
I turned around went home to change my underwear.

Heard a good phrase today ftom a policeman:

The standard of some driving is atrocious

Yup. But why? We've all had to pass a test.
I know the roads are terribly congested, but it's easier to look look out for each other, than to pick up the pieces

Glad you are ok

it's almost like having ESP..... you actually learn how to predict some drivers and be in a position to avoid what so obviously looks like their failure to see you or even bother to look..... Loud Pipes help considerably in my experience.... a Blip on the throttle normally gains attention..... had loads of these sort of encounters over the years.... All the Police are doing is fining people for exceeding a given speed limit and totally ignoring bad and dangerous driving until after an accident. I RECKON AT LEAST ONE IN FIVE DRIVERS I MEET IN TOWN ARE ON THEIR PHONES......
Ok, I confess.......

If you get the chance to hear the horn on a new wing do. The dozy sod would not have heard your pipes. The horn, brakes and stunt were all performed in a split second when she pulled out.
Yes, anticipation is part of good road craft.

I have the Denalli Split Bomb on my bikes.... they are loud but the pipes are louder and even then, some are oblivious.... agreed, Anticipation is the best weapon.

My unprofessional opinion ......

Too many people staying in the UK during the school holidays adding to the traffic congestion which in turn frays people's tempers leading to a lack of concentration .

On my home from Stratford , the number of cars that moved right in their lane to stop me filtering or even overtaking was unbelievable . Even my pillion got bored of the number of "one finger salutes" issued , as we finally got passed .
It wasn't my fault , I was left unsupervised !

Glad all your experience paid off.
I have a Denali sound bomb on the Striple. Sounds great every time the MOT comes round, but I can't use it on the road. My paws are to small to reach the button unless I let go of the bars. I never have time to let go of them in an emergency
Can just get a touch on the horn button on the Kawasaki, but it's a big stretch.
