Camp site

Post by bobsnicholson »

Snev, looks like Shirl and i will come down to Devon & Cornwall for a week or so when the horrors have gone back to school.
So, do you know of a really good camp site that has all the facilities, leccy, water, waste. A pub/club/restaurant on site or at least a good pub restaurant within a short stagger of the site. A sea view would be an added bonus. And central as we plan to hire a car to do daily tours.
I know it's a big ask but you being the man of "The Earth" in that region i thought i would ask.
We are off again to North Wales on Tuesday for another 3 nights. Loving it.

Hello Bob, to be honest, i've never really visited that many actual campsites but I'd highly recommend the North Devon Coast and other parts including Instow, westward Ho!, Barnstaple ( Market Town ) , Saunton (4 miles of Sand and a great Golf Coarse and the Saunton Sands hotel ) Croyde which includes Ruda holiday camp, Woolacombe and Puttsborough, ( Lots to do see and eat there plus lots of Campsites.) and then you have Ilfracombe and Combe Martin and the lovely scenic road to Porlock via Lynton and lynmouth.... just beware that many North Devon roads are no more than single tracks which often become blocked by Caravans !!!! Inland you have Exmoor which has some stunning scenery and lovely old Villages, We're off to Exford next weekend for two nights of passion, Drinking and Dog walking !
Ok, I confess.......

Ok Nev good advice.
I will look for something along the north Devon coast. I remember when i came down on the bike awhile ago. The bitch took me on some really narrow roads, so narrow there was a grass verge down the center. Don't want that in the RV.
One of my most memorable sites was just after coming out of Porlock you climb up on the right (think they might have been getting ready for a pop festival) just past pull in, the views of the coast both ways is spectacular. The other one was Lynton, lovely place.

That's at the Top of Porlock Hill , It has three pull-ins and people often Overnight there....... the road from there to Lynmouth Is one of my favorites for a fast ride, It has everything including long straights, corners and Stunning Views. If yo do go to Lynton and lynmouth, take a trip on the Railway, It takes you up or down the side of the Hill, If you then walk along the Coast path, you emerge into 'The Valley of the Rocks'..... ( You can drive there too ) ...... I have again tried to post Pics of all these places but nothing will upload........
Ok, I confess.......

Ref Pasties....... i used to love the Ivor Dewbneys Flaky Pastry ones from Plymouth but I bought some from a place in Exeter and was really disapointed..... One of the best of recent years was in the little Cafe in the Valley of the Rocks...... "Mother Meldroms" ..... it was proper chunky meat and Veg with great seasoning and a really short Pastry.... but I think the owners moved on and the last one I had from there was pretty average. I Know Roger used to rate the place in the Lizard but It's a fair old drive from North Devon..... Don't bother with Ginsters unless you like Gristle and soggy Veg !
