Picos

Post by bobsnicholson »

We have driven through the Picos region at 100 mph many times and thought, this is really nice. I also know it's great biking.

I have decided that whenever it's possible I am going on a bike tour of the region. I have studied and researched the area for hours and hours.
Plan is I will stay central and go for a planned daily route returning to "The Digs" at the end of the day. 2 days getting there. 4 full touring days there. 2 days back.

Questions. Have you been????? is there anything I really should not miss seeing/doing.

Happy Egg all (insert Easter egg here)

Rode through the Picos a few years ago on my way to Portugal . Nice road I can recommend is the N621 Unquera to Riano , which takes you past the Mirador del Corzo (famous metal deer sculpture.) If you do use this road , watch out for the turn in a town called Potes which continues on the N621 , otherwise you head out on a 15 mile dead-end road.
I stayed in Riano overnight and used Hotel Presa which has an underground garage for bike security . Hotel is basic but good food and at the time was a good price.
The N625 out of Riano heading back up towards the coast is apparently another decent biking road , although not done that one myself .
It wasn't my fault , I was left unsupervised !

I was invited to do a trip there this summer. All gone wrong now of course, but everything I've seen and read about the area sounds really good.
