FOR A BABY

Son just got a quote in Dubai for medical insurance for their baby.....Dhs 22,000 PA..........That's £4,000.
Are they robbing bastards or what. Got to be the most hated business on the planet. It's bollox innit.

Self-employed persons in The Colonies often have to pay upwards of $25,000/year for medical coverage.

We might complain about the state the NHS is in, but at least we still have it for now. I can see it coming to an end before much longer and all being based on buying insurance.

It's a wonderful thing to have. We should treasure it.

Bee fully agree. I despair at people who complain about the NHS. I know we have paid for the service through the years of taxes but yet they complain.
Having traveled the world and seen and experienced what others DO NOT have we really should be grateful.
Paying for additional medical insurance over and above the NHS or instead of has been big business for a long time and as you rightly say it could become compulsory instead of the NHS.

The one thing that riles me is the amount of money the top brass are paid in the trusts that run the NHS, it's obscene to pay them so much to f---k things up.

One of the things that annoyed me most when I worked for the NHS was the hopeless management, the wasting of money and the impossibility of getting anyone to listen! I have seen some appalling cases of waste and that was just in one department. The thought that they're probably all like that is really frustrating.
Wonderful staff who put themselves out to get the job done, often in their own time and unpaid, see this and despair. I have no idea how to put it right but as Bob says, we can see where an awful lot of the money goes.
I worked for the NHS for 10 years and watched it get worse. Most days I worked through all my breaks and it wasn't only me doing that. We had to do it to get the work completed in time. If tests weren't done on time the delays meant patients had to stay in longer without the right treatment and waiting lists get longer. If an urgent test arrived as you were putting your coat on to go home you took it off and went back to work. That's how it is and it can't go on forever.

I couldn't wait to leave but I still feel guilty for doing it, knowing my workmates would have to work even harder because I wasn't going to be replaced. It's all a horrible mess.

I’m all for the NHS, but I’ve always said the biggest problem isn’t lack of money, it’s bad management.

(Not to say that more money wouldn’t be useful of course, but people have to be accountable.)

Expect medical costs to double or triple if that happens, with the money going to a few rich shareholders and top insurance company executives.

Oh, and don't be surprised if you go to the chemist for a prescription and it suddenly costs £100 to £300 for a 30-day supply.
