Malle Beach Race 2022

Post by Beelady »

Woohoo! That was fun!
Inappropriate motorcycles racing on sand, hipsters, food, music, beer, sun, sea and more sand. Lots and lots of sand. And late night parties.
I was in charge of a little 125 stomp pit bike, decorated with a beach/seashell themed wrap, only very slightly bent front wheel and almost non existant brakes. We also took a Bultaco trials bike and an elderly 600 Honda, all of which had to be pushed along Margate sea front to the race area as none were fit to ride on the road (although it didn't stop some of them). Poilce presence looked the other way, so nobody got into trouble.
So we had two days of racing in pairs on the beach, between tides and although the last few rounds were partly in the water we made it through the whole race program. Many little jobs for me, having bikes ready for quick swap overs, juggling bits of wood for the side stands and holding the throttle open on the Bultaco for the Le Mans style starts on some of the races, waiting for Leila to run and jump aboard as it wouldn't tick over at all.
The pit bike managed to score the winning goal in the moto polo final (it's rider was no help. He was actually showing off doing wheelies when the ball bounced off the bike) and we also won the "least likely to make it home" award. We celebrated with big tubs of fancy ice cream with choclate bars in. :D
We all stayed in an air B&B, which was fun, and just had the most brilliant time.
I am still hobbling, shuffling and whimpering every time I move but it was so worth the pain. It was the best fun. I didn't take part in any racing but I did learn that riding on deep sand is not good for bendy bones and wobbly muscles. That was possibly the funnest bit of all :D
Did I mention cocktails? They were fun. too.

Sounds like a right laugh.. Not sure I'd like to take any of my bikes on the sand but reckon it would be fun... We used to take our Mopeds on Braunton Burrows and Crow Point Beach and get chased by the warden.... too young for cocktails after though.
Ok, I confess.......
