Pigles. We are off to Aussy again soon. Had a look on Tripadvisor bout tipping. God how different country's think.
I know you will justify it, don't make it right.

Agreed - no need to tip anyone, unless of course you'll be here the first Tuesday in November and have inside info on the runners in The Cup … in that case, all tips would be gratefully received

Our staff are paid a living wage - no need to tip, ever. If the bill is $98.00 feel free to leave $100, or pay the exact amount - no one will be offended either way. Cafes often have a tip jar near the register - I rarely see anyone put anything in, and I never do.
Credit card print outs often have space to write a tip in - I never do. Please don’t bring your poor wages/tipping culture over here as we don’t need it or want it.
By the way, the price you see on the menu/souvenir/clothing item is the price you pay - taxes are already included in everything in Aus. It makes shopping and dining very simple.
Cheers.

There are a couple of "Free" walking tours in major cities that 'hint' at you paying an amount at the end to the guide. In which case pay what you thought it was worth according to length and quality of the guide's commentary. Maybe AUD$5 to $10.
If you're paying for a tour, why would you pay more than they asked?
Cheers

Tipping

Re: Tipping
One should tip restaurant servers in The Colonies, since they are often paid less than minimum wage (which is allowed on the assumption that they will be tipped at least 20%), and they are also taxed as if they receive a 20% tip, no matter what the actual tip is.bobsnicholson wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 9:27 pm Pigles. Would be better if it was not this way, but those least able to do anything about it should not be punished (not tipping only hurts the poorly paid server, and not the restaurant owner or politicians making the labor laws and tax policies).

Re: Tipping
I just cannot understand why the "Unions" and government are not doing more to force the business owners to pay their staff a living wage. WHY should the paying customer bear the burden of Tipping. (i know the price of the service or food would go up to cover but it would be proportionate)
I just find it an interesting topic. Like Singapore, offer a tip and you are insulting the server/worker.
As i have also said, i do tip, in fact we went out to celebrate the birth of our first grandson last night. Wife and i had 4 drinks, i tipped £5...............because i wanted to........not because i was forced to or embarrassed into.
Anyway, here's a tip, don't wipe your bottom on a broken bottle

What unions? And the government is fully owned by a criminal cartel (Epstein was in the business of getting blackmail material on politicians).bobsnicholson wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 6:47 am I just cannot understand why the "Unions" and government are not doing more to force the business owners to pay their staff a living wage.

Tipping is for good service, not to make up the wages, it should be optional,
It just makes sense, which is not something I have a lot of...
