London

Post by bobsnicholson »

Off to the capitol tomorrow morning. Got the mortgage in place to pay the extortionate prices down there.
Got my phrase book to translate. £35 a day to park at the hotel :'-( almost attached to Tower Bridge (stayed there before).
The Bautuaxe Boat river dinner cruise tomorrow night.
Occasion, 45 or 46 year anniversary.

Happy Anniversary! You should have a count up and see how many years it really is. You don't want to make a mistake and suffer for it later :D Have a lovely time.

The lite poppy display with the music was quite moving.

That looks amazing.

It’s been a powerful remembrance this year. I went to the National Memorial Aboretum on Saturday, as I knew it would be packed on Sunday.

Very special place.

Hope you both had a lovely time

It looks amazing. If I have to go to London I always choose winter, usually just after Christmas. Crowds have died down a bit and all the pretty, sparkly bits are still there. It all looks so much nicer after dark.

I usually have a quiet Remembrance day. I get out the pictures of my Great Grandad's grave and read some of the letters he sent home before he was killed. I look at the medals and make sure I pack them away safely again. Every two or three years John used to take me on the back of his bike to go and visit the grave. There used to be a group of elderly men who seemed to spend a lot of time, keeping the place immaculate. They would always come over and shake our hands and make sure we could go and see the book of remembrance. Over the years they have gone, one by one and last time we went we didn't see anyone. I assume they are all gone now. They said they were thankful to our country for all we did in WW2, which was their war, but it was very touching that they still remembered and made sure they looked after their cemetery so beautifully.

Have to say it was one of the best trips to London we have had. What with the Cenotaph, bands, pipers and all the other stuff going on. Then the pinnacle, the flame poppy's with that music, truly heart wrenching.

Shirley had the distance walk app thing, we walked 12.8 MILES on Sunday and saw so much (route was planned by me.
After the Tower display we had night cap in the Duck & Waffle..........google it.
