That was a triumph

Post by Ninjachica »

By some fluke, I managed to wrangle a free tour of the Triumph factory in Hinckley today. It was an event sponsored by WOAM, and featured Maria Costello.

My mate and I rocked up a bit early and had a long chat with Maria, then had lunch in the cafe.
Met loads of nice people, then walked around the ‘visitors experience’. This is over 2floors and leads to the shop (where you can buy a tshirt for £30, or take a mortgage out on a jacket).

Back downstairs, I spotted the lockers to store your kit! Brilliant idea.

Bit of promo stuff, then we went on a guided tour. This took nearly 2 hours. Normally, you need to book (and pay!), but it is difficult to find a slot.

I really enjoyed it. Discovered some interesting stuff. Got baffled by some stuff I wasn’t interested in. Was fascinated by some stuff that others found mundane. It was certainly well organised.

Come home time, somehow dodged the worst of the weather, and stayed dry👍

I'm hoping to book the tour next year. I've been to several technical talks by Triumph R&D people at Triumph events and they've been really interesting. They explained things in a way I could understand and I could now bore your socks off explaining fly by wire and also found I wasn't the slowest at assembling a Bonneville gearbox against the clock. I liked their talk on how new bikes are designed as well. I'm sure the tour will be just as interesting.

Someone left out the 6th gear when they put mine together. 😉

Actually, do not really miss having one very often.
