House Move

Oh, so close this time. I should have exchanged yesterday afternoon but my buyer's solicitor was still on holiday and his deputy messed up and we missed the deadline.
Monday is the next target date, with completion due on 12th August. So hard to concentrate on anything while I wait and meanwhile I am leading a complicated double life so that all my neighbours, old and new, think I'm around most of the time.
Yesterday I spent the afternoon in Westgate, getting visits from friends on bikes and then spent the night camping in the new house. I waited until some of the people living on my street were about and said good morning to several of them before jumping back into the car and heading home to Brenzett.
So far the strategy is working. I have a spy for my new place and she reports that the new neighbours are quite confused about what I actually do and why I'm so busy coming and going. I haven't actually lied but have hinted that I'm really busy with work, but looking forward to retiring very soon.
I'm still trying to work out how I ended up with two houses and hoping HMRC haven't noticed yet as I don't want to be hit with double stamp duty for my second home. I know I could claim it back once the sale of the old house goes through, but I don't have the money to give them
What a strange existance it's turned into. I am considering the merits of strong drink and only sobering up once it's all over.
I am longing to get on the 'phone and book my Striple into the shop to be fixed. Can't wait to get out on it again :)

Thanks.
I've got to this point several times before. Even my estate agent thinks it must be something to do with living on the marsh. She's never come across anything quite so weird as my buyers and I'm willing to believe her
Really feeling quite strange this evening. Hot, bothered, wishing I could take the Kawasaki to Rye harbour and watch the tide turn. If I hadn't had wine with an early tea I could have done that.
Roll on tomorrow. At least I'll know the best and worst that could happen. Not long to wait now.

Exchange is still on for today. Impossible to concentrate!
A bit early for wine, so making do with toast and honey. Lots and lots of it.

It happened! After 16 months I've exchanged contracts!

Moving day is 12th August. 22 years to the day after moving here. How weird is that?

And who had already promised to spend two days on the 14th and 15th on the East Kent Triumph Owners stand at the Betteshanger Sprint?
Yes, that would be me. Doh!

Never mind. I have all the time in the world to get used to living in a town again. It's going feel very strange, moving from a tiny house with a big garden to a big bungalow with a small garden. No Marsh Harriers calling to wake me up in the mornings. Only horrible gulls shouting from the rooftops. Wait until they meet Mongo. A cat that's willing to stalk and attempt to take down a full grown suckler cow shouldn't be too bothered by big flappy birds. I just have to work out how to get the Dreamies onto the roof without feeding the enemy :D
And I need to have a shed built for my bikes. Then I shall have two sheds. Tricky, but I think I'll manage.

I'm so relieved that things are progressing. I didn't realise how worn out I was. Early night for me. I'm sure I'll sleep better then usual.
