Thank the heck that's over....... It's taken nearly two bloody months....... Euro 5 has a really bad effect on Fuelling and Throttle response according to my trusty Service manager.... He strongly recommended getting the Z900 on a Dyno..... I'm on it..... 8th December here we come ! Don't buy a new bike and expect it to be smooth........

Run in just in time to ride on the ice and snow with a snatchy throttle, nice

Get a Street Triple next time. None of that snatchy throttle rubbish. I'd cry if I bought a bike that wasn't perfect from day one.

Had you thought about crying in the shop? It's worked for me in the past. It's a long story but eventually it earned me a £2,000 discount on the original Striple

I’ve never had to run a bike in. The ninja had 2k on it (I think).
Whoever had it managed to wreck the headstock bearings

Only ever had one brand new bike , worst 1000 km of riding ever getting it to first service . Lots of theories whether an engine actually needs running in due to bench testing etc. but I did mine by the book just for peace of mind .

Agree. We are brought up being told you must run in a new vehicle. It's hard not to.
In the olden day's it was a must, in this day and age it is said it's not necessary.
Highly unlikely i will be buying anything new now, but i i did i would "run it in".

I don't actually do it by the book though....... It's a matter of increasing the throttle and load gradually ......... most new cars and vans have really high mileage first services, The Transit's at 20000...... i just feel a tad guilty at times though !!!!!

Ed used to buy a new bike, arrange pickup on a Friday, first service (500 miles) the next day!

He was keen! I booked mine in for a week after collecting it. It did go a few miles over, but I'm pretty good at sticking to service intervals on the Triumph.
The Kawasaki just gets oil changes and maintenance when it needs doing.

The worst bit about a new bike is the fear of damaging it. Leila and I were chatting to a chap with a BMW 1000 something or other when we stopped for a break on our ride during the week.
He fell off it, trying to turn in the road and broke an indicator, scratched the paintwork and split a hose. We waited with him for the breakdown truck. He looked as if he would have cried his eyes out if he hadn't been forced to keep a stiff upper lip. He'd only had the bike three days

I used to worry about the Street Triple until I hung it up on a security fence. Now I just look at it's battle scars and smile.

About a week used to be my goal too........ One day is bonkers !
