We went out this morning. Ed wanted to go north, but I was leading
Past Ontinyente through the stunning gorge, that the bikers love. Oncoming bikes start waving us down, so ease off, expecting an accident. A few corners later, guardia pulling all the bikers in.
Paperwork licence and breathalyser.
I’ve stopped at a dodgy spot, but nice guardia takes my helmet as I move to a safer spot. I thank him nicely .
Licence is English. Explain that I spend 3 weeks in Uk then 1 in Spain. He grins, excellent arrangement. Licence is fine.
Give him my insurance papers. Ibex (Spanish), but written in English. He finds the date. All ok.
Blow into little box. No problems.
He’s happy and shows me the best way back out, then trots of to pull in the next lot...
Ed had the same treatment. However, the previous ones had every inch of their bikes looked over.
My bike hasn’t had an mot for about 6 years. Glad he didn’t query that, or my Uk plate!

Re: Be polite
That was my second breathalyser here, but Ed has had quite a few.
My first document stop though. Everyone said the guardia are nasty, but the ones I’ve encountered have been fine. That said, I wouldn’t like to get on the wrong side of one (and his gun).

That shooting, so so wrong. And he got away with it, mad.
I suppose another reason we probably will never go back to the states.
Much much safer here in war torn Mid East.

Do vehicles not need a version of the MOT in Spain or anything similar,
must say I've seen some shocking vehicles not just Spain, Portugal and Italy too, often wondered if they have any limitations of disrepair

Yes, cars and bikes over 2 years old (I think) have to be tested every year, like in the uk. For lorries, it’s every 6 months.
The ninja though, hasn’t been registered in Spain (yet).
I have done ‘voluntary ‘ mots before, but they are not legally recognised. The bike should be registered, then taxed and mot’d every year.
They had a big purge on mopeds a few years ago, and took loads off the road.
I live rural enough, for them not to be bothered! (Insurance is not dependent on tax or mot)
